Description
We are proud to host the Contextualized Leadership Development (CLD) program, where qualified instructors teach approved undergraduate courses right here at First Baptist Brookline. These courses are fully accredited, just as if you were taking them in the seminary classroom. Additionally, these classes can be audited by those who would like to participate in the course without earning academic credit.
Purpose
Whether due to time, money, or physical proximity, many people don’t have access to theological training. Does that exclude them from an opportunity to receive formal training? Thankfully, no! Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Spurgeon College offer a tuition-free program that brings formal doctrinal education into the context of the local church.
Certification & Degree Options
Our accredited courses can be applied towards the many Bachelor and Associates degrees offered at Spurgeon College. Up to 49% of a certificate, diploma, or degree can be earned through CLD courses. Through MBTS’s Advance Standing benefit, CLD courses can even be counted towards one-third of a Masters degree at MBTS. What’s more, CLD courses are entirely tuition-free.
Personal Evangelism and Discipleship
This summer, Geoff Box will be teaching a course titled Personal Evangelism and Discipleship. In this course, students will be
introduced to basic methods of personal Bible study, discipleship, and evangelistic witness in multi-cultural settings. Students who complete this course will be able to:
- Evaluate paradigms of spiritual discipline, discipleship, and evangelism in light of sound doctrine, especially the sufficiency of Scripture and the necessity of the Holy Spirit
- Explain the roles of personal relationships and the local church in spiritual discipline, discipleship, and evangelism
- Employ basic methods of spiritual discipline, discipleship, and evangelism with integrity and consistency
- Equip believers to practice spiritual discipline, discipleship, and evangelism in the context of the local church.
This accredited course may be audited (taken for no credit), applied toward a degree at Spurgeon College, or even, through MBTS’s advance standing benefit, be counted toward a Master’s degree at MBTS. CLD courses are open to church members and non-members, high school students and adults.
The course will run from May 24 to August 2, and will meet in-person on Friday, June 19 through Sunday, June 21. You can reach out to Geoff Box (geoffabox@gmail.com) if you have questions.
